Overview
BJC Behavioral Health is a community health center that provides and coordinates behavioral health services for more than 8,000 seriously mentally ill adults and seriously emotionally disturbed children in St. Louis City, St. Louis County, St. François, Iron and Washington counties. As an Administrative Agent of the Missouri Department of Mental Health (DMH), BJC Behavioral Health serves as a major point of entry for people eligible for mental health services funded by DMH and is responsible for serving as gatekeeper to the public mental health system.

Role Purpose
This position is responsible for implementing and coordinating a multidisciplinary team to work with young adults experiencing early symptoms of mental illness, utilizing the NAVIGATE model, an evidenced based approach that provides individualized care and support for young adults aged 18-35 who are experiencing first episode psychosis (FEP). This position is integrated into the program/service array of Independence Center, works with the team to ensure individualized support, provides education to involved families and the wider community to source referrals and coordinate care for individuals experiencing early psychosis. This position provides leadership and optimizes how the team works together in the service of the individual?s recovery and resilience.
Responsibilities
Manages individual(s) including but not limited to: hires, trains, assigns work, manages & evaluates performance, conducts professional development plans. Ensures that the productivity and actions of that group meet/support the overall operational goals of the department as established by department leadership.
May participate in the development of departmental staffing, revenue and/or expense budgets and having direct responsibility for adhering to those goals. This includes responding to changes in the business which may affect the ability to achieve the budget goals.
Provides training, education and outreach to stakeholders sourcing potential referral sources within the community and internally. Markets the program to community agencies serving transition age youth. Collaborates with Early Psychosis Care of Missouri, Washington University Early Intervention Center, NAMI St Louis, etc.
Oversees all annual assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes as outlined by program standards and regulations. Facilitates team meetings for care and coordination. Participates in leadership meetings for inter-agency coordination. Creates an environment where each team member operates as specialist and a generalist while working as part of the Young Adult team. Supervises, hires, trains, and provides clinical supervision for Community Support and Peer Specialists providing care for individuals experiencing early psychosis and enrolled on the Young Adult team.
Establishes after hours on call coverage for the Young Adult team to provide continuity of care by the team members who have established relationships with the individuals, families, and caregivers. After hours team members respond to crisis situations by telephone and/or by going onsite, when necessary.
Responsible for staying informed of best practices with young adults and those experiencing first episode psychosis, attending relevant and required training. Coordinates with the Department of Mental Health, MO Behavioral Health Council, and MO Institute for Mental Health (MIMH). Ensures Fidelity standards are met as outlined by SAMHSA, DMH and CARF standards. Prepares for and participates in fidelity reviews conducted by MIMH. Sets annual goals and outcome targets.
Serves as the family education clinician on the team. Helps the whole family learn about psychosis, how to manage it, build family resiliency, and how to support each other. Family education helps relatives cultivate the necessary knowledge, attitudes, and skills to cope effectively, support client?s progress through the recovery process and encourages family members to be involved in other aspects of the young adult's care.
