This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Education: Candidates must meet one of the following: Hold a master's degree or doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy from a program approved by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE), Hold a master's degree or doctoral degree in marriage and family therapy from a MFT program from a regionally accredited institution, OR Hold a master's degree or doctoral degree in a comparable mental health degree (Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor, Social Work, Psychiatric Nursing, Psychology, and Psychiatry) that meets the current VA qualification standard of that profession. Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to MFT positions in the GS-0101 series in VHA must hold a full, current, and unrestricted MFT license to independently practice marriage and family therapy in a State. Grade Determinations: GS-12 Experience and Education. In addition to the basic requirements, candidates must have successfully completed evidence based training in marriage and family therapy and must have graduated from a COAMFTE accredited program OR have passed the AMFTRBE. Candidates must have at least five (5) years of post-licensed clinical experience in delivery of family systems therapy including one-year equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. This experience must demonstrate possession of using evidence based family therapy model while demonstrating progressive professional competency and expertise. Licensure: Candidates must possess the ability to provide clinical supervision. Assignments responsible for providing clinical supervision must have an AAMFT Approved Supervisor designation or be an AAMFT Supervisor Candidate (AAMFT Supervisor Candidates have 2 years from date of placement to obtain the designation). In addition to the experience above, candidates must demonstrate all of the following Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Ability to identify professional development needs of other MFTs and guide them in current family systems theory/therapy practice guidelines. Ability to collaborate with members of other disciplines and supervisors and to represent the family systems theory/therapy profession both in and outside of VHA. This includes knowledge of the roles, contributions, and interrelationships with other disciplines. Ability to perform the full range of administrative and clinical supervisory duties including responsibility for work assignments, competency assessments, performance evaluations, selection of staff, and recommendation of awards, advancements, and when appropriate, disciplinary actions. Ability to analyze clinical data and make recommendations for corrective actions to optimize quality, efficiency, performance, and productivity within service keeping in line with accrediting bodies and policy. Applicants must apply to the appropriate vacancy announcement. The Marriage and Family Therapist Supervisor is responsible for the over-all clinical and administrative operation of the Vet Center. The Marriage and Family Therapist Supervisor in coordination with the Deputy District Director defines the mission and scope of practice of the Center according to the policies of Readjustment Counseling Service (RCS) and the needs of the local Veteran community.\nDuties may include but not limited to: Supervises the clinical and administrative staff of the Vet Center and is responsible for evaluating their performance. Serves as a consultant and subject matter expert to programs and resources external to the Vet center on matters relating to the readjustment needs of Veterans. Responsible for the screening/assessment of Veteran clients, treatment planning and goal setting, referral to service providers, development of a resource file, Veteran advocacy, crisis intervention, education/health promotion, coordination of non-institutional and institutional services, and individual/group counseling Serves as the Marriage and Family Therapist Supervisor (MFT) on a the multidisciplinary team that is located in a community-based Vet Center that provides Veterans with community outreach, counseling, therapy, treatment, direct services, and referrals to VA and community resources. Provides community education regarding the problems and needs of the Veteran. The counseling and therapeutic services provided by the Vet Center range from routine to complex. Clients encountered and problems exhibited necessitates a variety of psychological, rehabilitation, marriage and family counseling and mental health counseling techniques including, but not limited to, individual, group, conjoint, vocational, educational, substance abuse and readjustment counseling. Possess the capability to perform administrative tasks required in the community-based office of a program with a unique administrative structure and a variety of formal and informal working relationships with a wide range of VA facilities and community organizations. Manage the Vet Center budget and perform other administrative duties. Conducts assessment interviews, develops treatment plans, and provides treatment to eligible Veterans and their families. Participates in, and provides consultation to other team members and participates in conjoint emergency treatment with medical facility mental health personnel. Requires the incumbent to possess or develop an understanding of the particular needs of these types of clients. Sensitivity to the needs of all clients in respect to age, developmental requirements and culturally related factors must be consistently achieved. Responsible for assessing the training needs of staff and assisting them in securing training to successfully meet the clinical and administrative demands of their positions. Provides clinical, professional, and administrative supervision to the clinical staff of the Vet Center and conducts administrative and clinical staff meetings on a regular basis.
