DESCRIPTION The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Technology (DUTEC) faculty performs duties and responsibilities under the general direction of the Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs and the Dean of the Health Sciences, Education & Wellness Institute (HSEWI). This position works in close collaboration with the DUTEC Program Chair.
Full-time instructors demonstrate commitment to student success through teaching and learning excellence, including directing student learning in assigned courses, establishing and assessing student learning outcomes, and collaborating with colleagues across campus in the on-going development of program curriculum and activities; and through advising of students; participating in college governance and decision making; maintaining current knowledge and skills in area of assignment; building collaborative relationships within the Bellevue College community and the community at large; and fostering a positive, caring learning environment in which diversity and equity are valued.
COMPREHENSIVE WAGE AND BENEFIT PACKAGE Annual salary is based on a 176-day contract with a minimum of $66,580.43; beginning salary will be determined by the assessment of the candidate's education and related experience. New hires cannot be placed above $71,390.63 unless exceptional circumstances prevail.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT The Health Sciences, Education & Wellness Institute (HSEWI) fosters successful completion of our diverse students' education goals, as well as advocates life-long wellness, learning, teaching, and service excellence. We provide a wide variety of accessible, rigorous, and engaging professional/technical courses, programs, and credentials that are responsive to individual, institutional, and community needs, prospects, and opportunities. Our Institute is comprised of sixteen unique programs which focus on providing excellent education and training for many professions in healthcare, education, and wellness.
Promote equitable teaching and learning with a diverse student body, both on-campus and in clinical setting.
Utilize a variety of teaching and learning strategies/techniques, including integration of technology to assist students in the achievement and assessment of learning outcomes.
Maintain strong commitment to student success through fostering a positive and caring learning environment.
Clinical coordination to include planning clinical experiences, maintaining clinical site visits and finding new clinical sites.
Provide timely verbal and written assessments of student performance.
Mentor part-time/adjunct clinical faculty.
Maintain effective communication with faculty, staff, students, and clinical partners from diverse background.
Actively and effectively participate in faculty group processes.
Review content of assigned courses and integrate content relevant to the latest research developments, recommendations, and practices in the profession.
Participate in on-going curriculum development, revision, and program evaluation/assessment that incorporate the principles of diversity and inclusion.
Participate in Clinical Consortium Day (CCD) and DUTEC Information Sessions.
Participate in the advising and mentoring of students enrolled in the program and of prospective students, including navigating obstacles that underrepresented and historically marginalized student populations may experience in college (e.g. students with disabilities, students of color, first generation college students, LBGTQia students, Veterans, 2nd language learners, etc.).
Participate in professional development activities in order to maintain professional qualifications and clinical competency in nursing education.
Participate in community organizations, events, or in related projects and promote collaborative relationships with high schools and four-year colleges/universities (develop articulation agreements).
Participate in college governance, decision making, and initiatives, such as the collegewide effort to dismantle barriers that can impact underrepresented and historically marginalized student populations.
Perform other pertinent contractual duties and functions that may be assigned.
Associate's degree from an accredited institution in Diagnostic Ultrasound
Current American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or equivalent Board-certification in Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT)
Ability to connect and build relationships with students and colleagues from various ethnicities, ages, backgrounds, learning styles, and abilities
Two (2) years of recent clinical experience in diagnostic ultrasound
Intermediate level literacy in Microsoft Office suite and internet navigation
Philosophy of education appropriate to teach in a diverse (multi-cultural, multi-ability) classroom and an advocate for pluralism
POSITION SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS: Diagnostic Ultrasound instructors must have the following abilities:
The gross and fine motor skills required to assist students with providing safe and effective diagnostic ultrasound
The physical endurance and ability to work in a clinical setting with students for 4-6 hours
The physical endurance and strength sufficient to assist students with providing diagnostic ultrasound. For example, moving objects weighing 10-25 lbs or greater
Ability to assist students with performing skills requiring the use of sight, smell, touch and hearing
Bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited institution
Additional certification in echocardiography and/or general ultrasound
Ability to implement concepts related to teaching and learning theory, curriculum development, and assessment of learning outcomes
Experience in integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion into teaching and learning, or equivalent transferable skills to do so
Experience in addressing disproportionate impact and equity issues in an institutional setting
Knowledge of current trends/issues related to the profession, and be active in community and professional organizations
Prior classroom and clinical teaching experience in a community college setting
