This position functions as a Recreation Therapy Assistant at Central Texas Veterans Health Care System at the Temple campus. The incumbent has responsibility for planning and implementing a wide range of highly specialized therapeutic programs and diversified recreation activities for patients in the community living center and adaptive sports clinic. The primary purpose of the position as a Therapy Assistant for the Whole Health Service in recreation will include but are not limited to the following duties: Work closely with therapists in assigned areas to co-plan the monthly therapeutic/activity event calendars. Makes frequent and extensive changes in approaches and activities, without prior approval of supervisor, to enable patients to make progress towards treatment goals. Apply the techniques of recreation to restore, maintain or improve the health and wellness of the patients. Modify treatment plans with approval of therapists based on the progress or lack of progress patients are making. Evaluates the patient's needs and interests with the recreation therapist and plans and Provides activities based on this information. Plans and administers recreation therapy as the employee in charge of specialized treatment area such as Recreation Hall, Recreation Therapy Multipurpose Room, Auditorium, and facilities. Completes assigned area maintenance duties, documentation, and ordering of supplies. ********** Class B CDL must be obtained within 90 days of employment ********* Work Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday, 8:00 am - 16:30 pm; rotating shifts and weekends are required.
