Responsible for the evaluation, planning, directing and administering of occupational therapy modalities of treatment as prescribed by a licensed physician in an effort to restore function and prevent disability following injury, disease or physical disability. Assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning, while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities. Clients served are predominately adults and geriatrics.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential Job Duties
Performs an appropriate assessment on each patient, as related to the therapy requested and provided and reassessments, as per policy. This includes adolescent and geriatric patients and the general patient population, which is predominantly adults (18 years and older).
Able to assess patient pain interfering with optimal level of function or participation in rehabilitation - makes appropriate physician contact for intervention.
Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Identifies learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of instruction; family is included in teaching, as appropriate.
Demonstrates knowledge and proficiency in occupational therapy modalities.
Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic and religious/spiritual needs of patients and their families.
Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Maintains department cleanliness and safety.
Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians, staff and administrative team.
Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patientsâ�� needs are met and hospital policy is followed.
Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
Consults other departments, as appropriate, to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
Meets current documentation standards and policies.
Participates in staff in-services. Assists with orientation and in-service training for department staff members, when requested. Participates in educational programs.
Participates in evaluation of staff, including interviewing, hiring, evaluating and termination.
Provides input in formulating budget, assists in evaluating department performance versus budget controls and takes appropriate action to remain within budget guidelines.
Ensures that patient charges are accurate and entered on a timely basis.
Participates in infection control, departmental equipment training and organizational safety and fire safety programs.
Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time.
Adheres to scheduling requests of the department (Works weekends, no â��special days offâ��, no exceptions, unless in school).
Adheres to the Customer Service Standards of Texas Regional Medical Center while representing the organization in a positive and professional manner.
Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility, as well as the focus statement of the department and complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
Utilizes computerized punch time system correctly
Completes annual education requirements and maintains regulatory requirements.
Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean and wears identification while on duty.
Completes in-services and returns in a timely fashion and has not missed any mandatory in-services.
Attends at least 8 staff meetings annually, is responsible for information presented at monthly staff meetings that he/she is unable to attend.
Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
Currently licensed in the State of Texas.
Graduate from an approved school of Occupational Therapy.
One or more years of previous experience in all aspects of occupational therapy.
Current BCLS certification.
Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
Additional languages preferred.
Strong written and verbal skills.
Basic computer knowledge.
Knowledge of physical therapy modalities, anatomy and physiology
Knowledge of physical therapy equipment operation, maintenance.
