Nature-Based Therapy (NBT) is the professionally facilitated use of educational and play-based interactions with plants, animals, and natural landscapes to promote health and wellbeing.
The Nature-Based Therapist will provide Nature-Based Therapy services to patients and their families within their scope of practice and in conjunction with the proper stakeholders. This may be in an individualized, group or other setting, as determined to be a best fit for the program.
Promotes and educates about NBT to patients, families and staff.
Provides individualized or group sessions for patients, families and staff.
Works in conjunction with other team members and stakeholders to expand NBT programming.
Assists in monitoring and revising Nature-Based Therapy programming according to current and emerging client/unit needs under direction of supervisor.
Communicates in a timely manner with interdisciplinary team members regarding changes in patient condition and other information as needed.
Maintains all NBT supplies and equipment.
Documents patient visits within established timeframe (24 48 hours).
Demonstrates the ability to advance evidence-based practice by utilizing standards, guidelines and pathways for care delivery.
Incorporates data and information into practice to continually improve care and practice so that patient outcomes are enhanced.
Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served
Partners with patient care giver in care/decision making.
Communicates in a respective manner.
Ensures a safe, secure environment.
Individualized plan of care to meet patient needs.
Modifies clinical interventions based on population served.
Provides patient education based on an assessment of learning needs of patient/care giver.
Fulfills all organizational requirements
Completes all required learning relevant to the role
Complies with and maintains knowledge of all relevant laws, regulation, policies, procedures and standards.
Fosters a culture of improvement, efficiency and innovative thinking.
Performs other duties as assigned
1-2 years experience in NBT or Nature-Based education; specifically working with pediatric populations
Nature-Based focused certification, e.g. a Certificate in Horticultural Therapy or Nature-Based Therapy
2-5 years experience in NBT or Nature-Based education
