The Chief of Occupational Therapy will provide supervision of the occupational therapy program and support to the PM&R Service Chief and Assistance Chief. The incumbent is responsible for the development and implementation of policies and procedures to address focus clinical needs and the overall services delivered and provided within the occupational therapy section. The goals are to manage the efficient provision of occupational therapy services. -Responsible for maintaining and improving the relationship of the occupational therapy program to other programs in the PM&R Service, to other programs and divisions at Jesse Brown Medical Center and Rehabilitation services in the VISN. -Incumbent has full supervisory responsibility over the Occupational Therapy program, and work closely with the Chief and Assistant Chief and Assistant Chief of PM&R Service and clinical staff, to ensure the clinical and administrative appropriateness of the services delivered. -Represents the Chief and Assistant Chief PM&R Service at meeting involving administrative matters and commits the service to action and deadlines. -Provide overall clinical supervision that assures the proper coordination and delivery of care within the occupational therapy section and facility at large. -Responsible for maintaining and facilitating work relationships between physicians, medical staff and the occupational therapy staff. -Make recommendations for selection, promotion and reassignment of all personnel within the occupational therapy program. -Responsible for the recommendation of the PM&R Service for awards for personnel and changes in position classification subject to approval by higher-level officials. -Participates with labor-management matters concerning individual areas as needed. -Works with the Chief and Assistant Chief of PM&R Service and other members of the rehabilitation leadership team to determine and consolidate plans for alternations, reorganization or rearranging of space to provide safe and optimal space utilization. -Work closely with inpatient/outpatient interdisciplinary teams and physicians to ensure occupational therapy service delivery meets the patient, provider, and other stakeholders' needs. -Provide direct patient care. -Ensures OT patient care is appropriate to the cognitive, emotional, cultural, developmental, and chronological maturation needs of the adult and/or geriatric patient. -Offer treatment interventions tailored to the client's abilities/needs and design to promote, modify, maintain or restore occupational performance. - Document the veteran's response to treatment, therapists' interventions and the progress toward reaching the desired targeted outcomes.
