The SUD Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor is responsible for the continuum of social work services within the Beckley VA Medical Center as part of an Outpatient Addictions Interdisciplinary team. The Substance use Disorder (SUD) Clinic Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor duties may include but are not limited to the following: Incorporate complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment of Veteran patients, including making psychosocial and psychiatric diagnoses within approved clinical privileges; Employs a high level of skill and expertise and has, or is willing to obtain, specialized training in Evidenced Based Practices (EBP) to further successful outcomes based upon the individual needs of Veterans within the program; Works with Veterans and their families who are experiencing a wide range of complicated medical, psychiatric, emotional, behavioral, and psychosocial problems; Develop therapeutic interventions to deal with any manifest dysfunction in emotional or social function that results from the effects of the chemicals on the body and brain; Uses special knowledge and skills to diagnose emotional stress of the Veteran and family /significant others. Uses a variety of psychotherapeutic approaches based on the diagnostic assessment to minimize those stresses; Educates Veteran and family on issues of aging such as loss, illness, disease progression, and functional transition during this life period. Additional emphasis on addressing issues such as advanced directives, financial needs, and future living arrangements; Participate as a member of the SUD clinic interdisciplinary team. Provides detailed case review and the subsequent development of treatment recommendations; Provide advance directive (Living Will and Durable Power of Attorney for Healthcare) information and education to the veteran and family, assisting the Veteran in preparing such documents, as requested; Manage and coordinate provision of the following services as appropriate: Activities of daily living; personal care attendant; nutritional management; prosthetic appliances; medical supplies; vocational rehabilitation; leisure and/or vocational interests; peer counseling /support groups; transportation and finances; home evaluations; housing alternatives; and identification, development and utilization of community resources; Other duties as assigned.
