The Child Life Specialist II is responsible for implementing a psychosocially and developmentally supportive program for hospitalized children and families. Provides appropriate guidance for volunteers and students. The child life specialist is a member of the pediatric health care team who focuses on the emotional and developmental needs of children using therapeutic and developmental play experiences which help children and families maintain normal life patterns, prevent significant developmental disruption, and mitigate psychological distress throughout their health care experience. The child life specialist acts as an advocate for children and their families with the hospital and uses their knowledge of child development to enhance the hospital environment for pediatric patients. Must have already completed a child life internship under the direction of a Certified Child Life Specialist.
Our E2 unit is a 20 bed hybrid unit consisting of 10 Cardiac Progressive Care beds in addition to step down medical/surgical unit, serving medically complex and post trauma patients. Seeking a seasoned CCLS with a Bachelor’s degree who has experience working with long-term, medically complex and cardiac patients and their families. This CCLS will have the skills to prioritize and provide in-depth Child Life interventions ranging from preparation and procedure support to expression of feelings to sibling support. Independence and strong clinical skills are needed.
