We are seeking two Genetic Counselors to join our dynamic teams in Tampa and Orlando at our new and innovative Multi-Specialty Centers to open in mid to late 2017. Job Summary:The Genetic Counselor will provide Genetic Consultation Services to Women’s Care Florida (WCF) patients. She/he will collaborate closely with WCF providers to identify patients at risk for genetic diseases in themselves or their offspring. Once identified, she/he will facilitate appropriate screening and subsequent management.
The provision of Genetic Consultation Services to patients referred by Women’s Care Florida providers. The process of genetic counseling includes:
For couples either contemplating pregnancy or in early pregnancy, construction of a three generation pedigree with focus on birth defects, mental retardation, known or suspected genetic disease and a brief medical history.
For patients referred for risk evaluation for hereditary cancer syndromes, construction of a family pedigree and a medical history as appropriate
Complete genetic risk assessment.
Discussion of the nature of the condition(s), including the contribution of heredity, and translation of complex technical information into easily understood language in order to insure patient comprehension of medical genetic facts.
Discussion on appropriate testing and procedure options based on genetic risk assessment. Risks, benefits, and limitation of each option are discussed and facilitation of decision-making occurs in a non-directive manner.
Coordination of patients’ genetic health care with provider(s), specialists, laboratories and support groups.
Appropriate interpretation and communication of test results to individuals, families and/or their health care providers.
Documentation of the counseling session and reporting to the referring physician, using our enterprise wide EMR, eClinicalWorks.
Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
Master of Science degree from an ABGC Accredited Program
American Board Genetic Counseling Certified or Eligible
Prior Genetic Counseling experience in a Physician Group setting preferred
Prior cancer and/or prenatal counseling experience preferred
Excellent communication, professional and organization skills
Computer literate including prior utilization of electronic health record preferred
Patient service orientation
